Official Rules

The Preply Scholarship for Students with Cognitive Disabilities is organized by Preply, Inc. (hereinafter “Preply” or “Sponsor”). The scholarship is video contest-based. The title of the video is “Why I deserve the scholarship and how language learning can be a new direction for me to overcome the disability”. Our video contest (hereinafter the “Contest”) aims to raise awareness about the various learning challenges for students with cognitive disabilities and share their insights on how foreign language learning helps them achieve more.

Participation in the Contest constitutes entrant’s full and unconditional agreement to and acceptance of these Official Rules and the decisions of the Sponsor, which are final and binding. Winning an award is contingent upon fulfilling all requirements set forth herein.

Contest eligibility

This Contest titled “Why I deserve the scholarship and how language learning can be a new direction for me to overcome the disability” is open to students diagnosed with language learning disabilities or reading disabilities. Entrants must be currently enrolled at accredited high schools and universities in the United States of America, Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia at their final year of high school, at the undergraduate level or the graduate level. Entrants must also be at least sixteen (16) years of age, but no older than thirty-five (35) and must maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.5 or equivalent (the “Entrant/s”).

Preply’s staff, officers, managers or trustees, members of the selection committee (hereinafter “Judges”), substantial contributors, certain US government officials or their immediate family members (parents, children, spouses, siblings) and members of the same household are not eligible to take part in the Contest and will not be able to accept prizes.

Former winners of any past Contest organized by Preply are not eligible to participate in the current Contest and any other contests organized by Preply.

Entry period

The Contest entry begins on March 16th, 2020 and ends on June 19th, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (hereinafter the "Entry"). Sponsor's computer is the official time-keeping device for the video Contest. Due to a large number of eligible contestants Preply, Inc. reserves the right to prolong the Entry deadline. When such changes are made Preply will update the Official Rules on this page. You understand and agree that if you participate in the contest after the date on which the Official Rules have changed Preply will treat your participation as an acceptance of the updated Official Rules.

Submit an Entry

• Eligible participants must submit their videos using the online form on with the address: //preply.de/de/scholarships/None/apply (the “Entry”).
• The video must be filmed in English in a horizontal format (landscape mode), uploaded to a public URL and available for embedding.
• The participant must specify his/her name and the name of the educational institution where he/she studies as part of the application.
• The content of the video must be logically related to the following topics: “cognitive disabilities” and “language learning”.
• Only one entry per person is permitted.
By submitting an Entry, you agree not to instigate, support, maintain, or authorize any action, claim, or lawsuit against the Sponsor on the grounds that any use of the Entry infringes any of the entrant’s rights as creator of the Entry, including, without limitation, copyrights, trademark rights, and moral rights.

Selection of Winners

The selection of the Winners will occur as follows:
• All Entries must be original works to qualify for the selection of Winners Contest stage. videos containing plagiarized material will be immediately disqualified.
• All Entries will be displayed on the website with the address: //preply.de/de/scholarships/None/videos.
• Three participants chosen by the jury will be declared as winners. The award fund consists of $3,000, $1,500 and $750 for the first, second and third places respectively. Winners will receive the funds as a learning deposit for tutoring on the Preply platform.
By submitting an Entry, each Entrant warrants and represents that the Entry (a) is original to the entrant, (b) does not infringe the intellectual property, privacy, publicity, or any other rights of any third party, (c) does not violate any law or regulation.

Notification of Winners

A list of the Winners will be posted on scholarships on 07 05 2020.

The winners of the first three prizes may be required to provide the Sponsor a copy of their official transcript which verifies student status and grades via email: scholarship@preply.org.

ATTENTION! In case the Contest is prolonged, the final date will be posted on the scholarship page.

Awards

The three qualified Finalists, chosen by Scholarship Jury, will be eligible to receive college scholarships of $3,000, $1,500 and $750 respectively (hereinafter the “Awards”), or gets an equivalent amount of money on his Preply Student account to spend on language lessons with a tutor of his choice.
Each Award will be transferred to a personal account via PayPal from Preply, Inc., and will be paid as a one-time payment. If a potential winner cannot be notified via the contact information provided on the Entry form within twenty-one (21) days after the first attempt, or if the award or award notification is returned as unclaimed or undeliverable, or if winner does not comply with the Official Rules, the Award will be forfeited. Sponsor reserves the right to substitute an Award, in whole or in part, of equal or greater monetary value if an Award cannot be awarded, in whole or in part, as described for any reason.

Your conduct

You agree to participate in the Contest in a manner that is lawful, relevant and proper to the applicable forum. Conduct that is inappropriate and/or offensive includes, but is not limited, to the following:
  • • Defame, abuse, harass, harm, stalk, threaten or otherwise violate the legal rights (including without limitation rights of privacy and publicity) of others;
  • • Publish, post, upload, distribute or disseminate any profane, defamatory, infringing, hateful, distasteful, obscene or unlawful topic, name, information, materials or content;
  • • Use the Contest for any purpose that is in violation of local, state, national, or international law, including without limitation wage/hour and working condition laws and regulations;
  • • Upload files that contain software or other material that violates the rights of any third party, including without limitation intellectual property rights or rights of privacy or publicity;
  • • Upload files that contain viruses, Trojan horses, worms, time bombs, spiders, cancelbots, corrupted files, or any other similar software, malware or materials that may damage, interfere with, disrupt, impair, disable or otherwise overburden the operation of any device, computer system or network;
  • • Advertise or offer to sell any goods or services for any commercial purpose within the Contest that are not appropriate or relevant hereto;
  • • Post the same content repeatedly or spam - spamming is strictly prohibited.


Release and Limitations of Liability

By participating in the Contest, Entrants agree to release and hold harmless the Sponsor, and their respective officers, directors, employees, and agents (the “Released Parties”) from and against any claim or cause of action arising out of participation in the Contest or receipt or use of any award, including, but not limited to: (a) any technical errors that may prevent an entrant from submitting an entry; (b) unauthorized human intervention in the Contest; (c) printing errors; (d) lost, late, postage-due, misdirected, or undeliverable mail; (e) errors in the administration of the Contest or the processing of entries; or (f) injury, death, or damage to persons or property which may be caused, directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, from entrant’s participation in the Contest or receipt of any award. Entrant further agrees that in any cause of action, the Released Parties’ liability will be limited to the cost of entering, if any, and participating in the Contest, and in no event shall the Released Parties be liable for attorney’s fees. Entrant waives the right to claim any damages whatsoever, including, but not limited to, punitive, consequential, direct, or indirect damages.

General conditions

• By entering the Contest, each Entrant acknowledges that Preply has the right at all times to disclose information as necessary to satisfy any law, regulation or valid governmental request.
• The Contest is subject to all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Void where prohibited. Participation constitutes entrant's full and unconditional agreement to these Official Rules and Sponsor's decisions, which are final and binding in all matters related to the Contest. Contest is intended only for students of high schools and universities aged 16 – 35 years.
• By submitting an application, Entrant agrees that the submitted video in conjunction with the Entry shall become property of Sponsor (including all rights embodied therein, including but not limited to the copyright) and that Sponsor and its designees may exploit, reproduce, publish, use, edit, adapt and/or modify the video in any way, in any and all media, now or hereafter known, throughout the world in perpetuity, without limitation and without additional compensation, notification or permission of Entrant or any third party.
• Except where prohibited, participation in the Contest constitutes an entrant’s consent to the Sponsor’s use of his/her name, likeness, voice, opinions, biographical information, and state of residence for promotional purposes in any media without further payment or consideration.
• Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual it finds to be tampering with the entry process or the operation of the Contest or to be acting in violation of these Official Rules or any other promotion or in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner. Disqualified or ineligible Entrants shall forfeit any awarded Awards. Forfeited awards will not be re-awarded to alternate winners.
• The invalidity or unenforceability of any provision of these Official Rules shall not affect the validity or enforceability of any other provisions. In the event that such provision is determined to be invalid or otherwise unenforceable, these Official Rules shall be construed in accordance with their terms as if the invalid or unenforceable provision was not contained therein.
• Your email will not be used for commercial purposes. We will only send you an email to notify you if you are a contest winner.

Disputes

Except where prohibited, entrant agrees that any and all disputes, claims and causes of action arising out of, or connected with, the Contest or any prize awarded shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, and exclusively by the appropriate court located in the State of Delaware. All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Official Rules, entrant’s rights and obligations, or the rights and obligations of the Sponsor in connection with the Contest, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of the State of Delaware, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules (whether of the State of Delaware or any other jurisdiction), which would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than the State of Delaware.
