About the tutor
Hello, my name is teacher Doret! I'm originally from South Africa, but I now live in the United Arab Emirates. I love kids and animals, am a bit of an exercise fanatic, a keen reader and watch sports. I have been working in the corporate world (ICT and software industries) for 20 years. I'm passionate about online teaching, love to learn more about my students and their culture and to assist them to broaden their horizons while learning English.
I have completed my level 5 TEFL qualification through The TEFL Academy, and obtained my 270-hour EFL Online Teaching Certificate through SOET, the School of Online English Tutoring. I also have 18 years of experience in the corporate world as an in-service, and induction trainer. as well as 2 years online ESL tutoring experience.
I am currently teaching teens and adult students online from all over the world, but have taught younger learners previously. I will teach any student at any level. I am also ready to assist you with interview groundwork and preparations.
Every student who enters my classroom is very important to me and I will adapt my lessons to what works for each individual student. We will work hard to improve your fluency, reading, grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary.
I focus on each student's goals and motivation for learning English and base my lessons around these goals. Reviewing a student's expertise is very important by means of a placement test. I will also give short homework exercises, as it is an important aspect of learning where a student review what he/she learned in the previous lesson.
I would like to encourage students to travel or study in other countries, by equipping them with the tools to do so! Teaching is the opportunity where I can help students to grow and speak English more fluently with confidence. I love meeting new people, and Preply is the perfect platform where I can meet and talk to people all over the world while teaching and learning about my student. Being born and raised in South Africa, where English is the main language spoken, it is also compulsory to take it as a Second language for your entire school education. So, you have to use English on a daily basis in various conversations. The company I worked for is also mainly English, so business discussions and assisting clients are 95% done in English. One of my main responsibilities was to teach our clients on how to use our software.
