Hi everyone! My name is Yakari and I’m so excited about the chance to talk to you!

I’m a native English & Spanish speaker, am learning French, and have plans to learn Korean, American Sign Language, and more!

I would love the opportunity to help you along your English learning journey and provide you with fun conversational practice. As a person who is also learning a different language I understand how intimidating it can seem, but one of the best things that can help you learn any language is to find ways to relate language directly to your interests.

For example, some of my interests include makeup artistry, music, and food. Although I have various other interests, these three dominate my daily life and they are the things I can always find something talk about and am always excited to share. It’s important to learn the basics of communicating with a new person, but the focus of my lessons are to learn how to interact with people in ways that allow you to share who you are and make meaningful friendships and connections.

It’s always easier to strike a conversation with someone new when you both share a common interest like a music artist, video game, a tv show or movie, or even a sports team.

So what will my lessons look like? I start off each lesson by establishing what your language goals are and getting to know who you are. From there we can see how you learn best whether it be visually, by listening, or by reading. Together we’ll learn and grow!

Growing up I had the blessing of teaching my Spanish-speaking grandmother English, and that is something that today motivates me to help others.

My lessons will always be a safe space for people of all genders, sexual orientation, and skin color.
