About the tutor

Hi! I'm a certified English tutor, with a university degree in English (with ELT as an elective) and a 168-hour, level-5 TEFL certificate from The Tefl Org UK. I taught English Literature courses (Classical & Modern Drama) at college level for some time before moving to Germany (where I lived for six years). Since getting my TEFL certificate, I've been teaching private students as well as on Preply, along with volunteering with a UK-based non-profit organisation.

I offer a structured course that will take your language level from B1 to C1 (covering all the 4 major aspects of language learning: GRAMMAR, VOCABULARY, SKILLS & FUNCTIONS). I use an expert-recommended course book series, mapped to CEFR levels from B1 to C1, to design my Scheme of Work. I use the textbook series as a guideline for the topics to be covered.

I then make my own lesson plans to cover each topic. Those lesson plans are tailored to each student's individual needs. This way, I ensure that my course has both structure AND flexibility. Because I want to give my students a streamlined, step by step syllabus that is also customisable at the same time.

My goal is to help my students with language acquisition in a way that is relevant and authentic, and not just textbook-based... classes that actually give them real-life communication skills. Therefore, apart from teaching grammar, vocabulary and skills, I focus a lot on teaching functional language and for that, I use authentic materials, like videos with real life conversations, Ted Talks, social media posts, restaurant menus, bus schedules etc.

I devise my lesson plans based on my students' needs and topics relevant to them.

I incorporate PPP methodology together with communicative and TASK-BASED APPROACH into my teaching; I use a variety of learning management tools like Google Drive, Slides, Docs in my classes; to teach my students language points, improve their understanding of grammar concepts and add to their vocabulary resource, I use various online tools to create flashcards, word games, puzzles and quizzes, along with interactive activities like role-plays.

I also sometimes adopt the 'unplugged' approach to my lesson-planning, in order to give my students a break from the usual lesson structure. In a similar manner, I sometimes go with 'flipped' lesson structure if it seems to suit a student's learning approach better.

When I'm not working, I like to cook, bake or read novels and comics in English. I also write poems from time to time (been doing that ever since college), quite a few of which have been published in one of the largest English-language newspapers here in Pakistan.

So, book a trial lesson with me now so I can do a Needs Analysis for you, walk you through my course plan & discuss how I will plan lessons to help you achieve your goals!

Overcoming your fear of the language and deciding to face it head-on is half the work done. Now, let's do the remaining half together to make your English goals achievable! Can't wait to meet you!
