Hello, my name is Gianna! I have been a teacher since 2021. Before that I was a outdoors education instructor.

I have worked with children, young people and families for 8 years now. Combining learning through play and the relevancy of the outside world into my lesson plans to make learning something tricky fun, engaging and memorable.

After the pandemic I ran a ‘Special Educational Needs’ support group daily with 6 children, leading them in games that challenged them mentally / educationally but also allowed them to cope with the day and have fun by burning off the energy they had to better help them focus on schoolwork. We focused on Maths, Handwriting, Phonics, and English sentence structure and grammar. Additionally, I ran a’ Social Invention' programme with 2 more children who struggled to manage patience and focus in a class setting due to ADHD and autism. Using stories and star charts we were able to bring routine into their every day activities making learning a far more easier task to handle.

As well as my passion for education I also sing, play piano and ukulele, and travel for work on board the largest cruise ship in the world as head of their Family Activities Programme!

Teaching Assistant (Severe Learning Difficulties/Moderate Learning Difficulties):

- 2 academic terms - children aged 5-13

I've aided them and taught them about self care such as feeding, toileting and personal hygiene, as well as, taught the children to swim and educating them in cookery, PE, sensory-led play, maths and English.

Teaching Assistant (Special Educational Needs): - 1 academic year - children aged 7-9

Individual learning support assistant running the ‘Special Educational Needs’ support group daily with 5 of the children, leading them in games that challenged them mentally / educationally but also allowed them to cope with the day and have fun by burning off the energy they had to better help them focus on schoolwork. Additionally, I ran ‘Educational Interventions’ in Maths and Handwriting daily with a further 6 children and 'Social Inventions' with 2 more children who struggled to manage patience and focus in a class setting due to ADHD and autism.

Summer Camp Leader: - 8 years - children aged 8-17

The ATE Trust is a charity that runs school-based activity days and Superweeks during school breaks. A Superweek is an 8-day summer camp held in outdoor centres nationwide.

I'm responsible for 8 children, looking after their needs each day such as hygiene, mealtimes and bedtimes and encouraging them to take part in activities such as hiking, singing and games. I’m respected as a senior monitor within the charity and have trained as an Assistant Director to support running the summer camps themselves. Additionally, I've trained children and young people to become new monitors in a weeklong training course and became characters in scripted games and shows during lockdown in online children’s events.
