About the tutor

Hello! I'm Annie.

I am from Australia and have a master’s degree in linguistics and TESOL. I worked in Japan as an English teacher for 3 years but now live in Canada. My classroom is conversation-focused.

I enjoy sharing and learning about other cultures, customs, and languages through conversations with new people. Let's share interesting stories with each other!

I have been working on Preply for a few years and really enjoy seeing my students become more confident with their English-speaking abilities. My lessons usually include open conversation, targeted topic chats, and conversation activities. I work with some of my students to focus on professional email writing, proofreading, accent reduction, and job interview practice. I like my lessons to be relaxed, creating a safe space for my students to practice their English conversation skills.

Go ahead and message me any questions you have or book a trial lesson!

Specialties

  • Conversational English

In my lessons, I place a strong emphasis on conversational English as I believe it's the most effective way for students to enhance their fluency and boost their confidence. We start off our sessions with casual 'small talk' to get comfortable, and then we delve into more extensive topics. These can range from current news events to popular culture, cultural differences, and more. While I do provide correction and guidance on grammar and pronunciation, the emphasis is on allowing students to freely practice their spoken English.

  • English job interview prep

I have helped many of my students prepare for job interviews in the past, and I like to keep it practical. We'll chat about how to put your best foot forward in interviews, considering that different jobs and cultures might have their own rules. I'll create custom practice questions based on the job description, and together, we'll work through some answers, all polished and professional. And, of course, we'll do some timed practice and mock interviews to boost your confidence for the real thing.
