Konnichiwa! My name is Mei! I was born and raised in Japan and I moved to Los Angeles for college when I was 19.

I graduated from California State University with a degree in Linguistics. Upon graduation, I started teaching Japanese from young kids to adults. I really enjoy having lessons with my students!

When I first moved to Los Angeles, I could barely understand English. I have improved but struggle still. My poor grasp of the language prevented me from having the confidence to even talk to my classmates. The first semester of English class had me reading lots of books which was difficult for me and lead me to lose my motivation for learning. From my own experience and struggles, I have learned it is very important giving lessons which suit the students and I think I could provide these lessons during private tutoring classes. I want my students to learn and improve their Japanese language skills, but still have fun at my lessons.

It is fun planning for each class since every student has different objectives and purposes learning Japanese. Every person has their own style of learning so I always try my best to cater to their specific needs. I try hard to think of ways prepare each lesson so that the person can learn while not losing interest or motivation. I will always welcome new suggestions of how you want your class to be taught. Private lessons are a great opportunity to learn Japanese your own way in a judgment free space!
