Hello, everyone! I'm an American tutor named Jeff. I have over six years of experience teaching English to speakers of other languages, and I want to be your new tutor.

I began my teaching experience in the southern part of China, where I lived and taught for two years. I taught both group classes and one-on-one classes during my stay there. Since leaving that country, I've been teaching completely online. I've taught students from Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Brazil, Argentina, Spain, Italy, China, Korea, Japan, Ukraine, and many other countries. I focus my lessons on daily conversation combined with opportunities for the student to read news articles, as this gives him or her new vocabulary that can be useful. I teach high-intermediate and advanced students, and I enjoy learning about students' home countries and cultures.

Many people feel intimidated when they learn a new language. I understand this, as I have been studying Spanish for quite some time. I will help you to feel relaxed during this process. As a student, remember that mistakes are your friend. Why do I say this? Because mistakes help us to know what areas of the language we need to focus on. I will correct you gently, not harshly, and give you tips on how to improve. If you want homework, I can give you some of that as well. Flexibility is a big part of my teaching philosophy.

We can talk about almost any subject. I usually don't give lessons that are completely focused on grammar, but we can talk about that as well. Knowing verb tenses, phrasal verbs, comparative adjectives, and how to use conditional statements are essential to being a well-understood and well-rounded speaker of English.

I was born in Louisville, Kentucky, United States, in 1973. I have an excellent understanding of American culture, history, and accents. I love talking about my country, but I also enjoy talking about other countries as well. I always learn a lot from my students, even as they learn from me.

I have a TESOL certificate, and several years of teaching experience. I believe the best way to teach English is through conversation. I often use news articles in class, as they can direct our conversations and give you new vocabulary.
